Australia Reviews Tax, Corporate Whistleblowing Protections

Australia has launched a review of protections afforded to whistleblowers who report tax and corporate misconduct.

The Treasury Department review will investigate whether corporate and tax laws incentivize whistleblowing, discourage misconduct, and provide whistleblowers access to justice, among other issues, according to a consultation released Tuesday.

“Whistleblowers play an important role in uncovering misconduct and wrongdoing in the tax and corporate sectors” and need to feel protected when coming forward, Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services Daniel Mulino said in a statement.
