Australia pushed back its plans to issue guidance on compliance with taxation of companies’ software payments to mid-2025.
The draft practical compliance guidance is intended to help taxpayers understand where the Australian Taxation Office is likely to apply its compliance resources in relation to royalty withholding tax risk potentially present in software arrangements, the ATO said Monday.
The guidance had previously been expected in January.
The guidance relates to compliance with a January 2024 draft ruling on when companies’ payments to bring software into Australia will be treated as royalties subject to withholding taxes.
