Australia Tax Agency Clarifies Deadlines for Individual Income Tax Return Filing, Payment

The Australian Taxation Office Sept. 28 clarified the deadlines for individual income tax return filing and payment. The announcement includes: 1) the Oct. 31 deadline to file tax returns; 2) the Nov. 21 deadline for the payment of tax, regardless of tax filing date; 3) the ability to obtain a different deadline, for taxpayers using a registered tax agent; 4) guidance on claiming deductions; and 5) penalties for noncompliance.
