Australia’s NSW State to Overhaul Casino Tax Changes for Star

The New South Wales state government will overhaul changes to casino taxes to prevent The Star Sydney turning into an unviable operation, according to a statement.

  • The new arrangement will see the introduction of a ‘transitional’ levy for the next seven years
  • Star will pay more tax on poker machines as its gaming revenue rises until the new duty regime starts July 1, 2030
    • Changes to the table game rates will proceed as proposed
  • The Star will be legally bound to maintain more than 3,000 jobs between now and 2030
