Austria MOF Clarifies Expense Deductions for Training, Education Costs

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance May 12 posted online Federal Finance Court Decision No. RV/7104433/2024, clarifying business expense deductions for training and further education costs. The taxpayer, a plant manager, claimed an individual income tax business expense deduction for costs related to completing life and social counselor training courses. The Tax Office denied the deduction. The taxpayer appealed, arguing that the training was professional education that his employer required to increase teamwork skills.
