Kemi Badenoch promised to scrap the tax levied on the purchase of Britons’ main homes as she sought to turn around her party’s fortunes a little over a year from a historic election defeat.

In a speech to her party’s annual conference lasting more than 50 minutes, the Tory leader listed a slew of policies designed to show how her party had changed since their chaotic final years in government, when they cycled through four prime ministers in five years.
