Belgium plans to raise EU3.1 billion from windfall taxes on energy companies as it looks cushion households against rising electricity prices.
- EU2.2 billion will come from recouping surplus profits from electricity companies over the 18 months through June next year, Energy Minister
Tinne Van der Straeten said in a tweet on Tuesday- This could be extended for another 6 months if prices remain elevated
- Another EU900 million will come from the oil and gas sector under the so-called “solidarity contribution”
