Brazil’s government has shelved a proposal to tax big tech firms in part because of fears that the tax could be seen as a response to US President Donald Trump’s tariffs threats, Reuters reports, citing officials familiar with the matter.
- Tax would have affected major US tech companies including Amazon, Alphabet and Meta
- Brazil will focus instead on a separate bill to regulate competition among major digital platforms
