Business Seeks Reassurance About Canada’s Digital Tax Repeal

Canadian businesses say they need a clearer roadmap from the federal government for dismantling the country’s digital services tax, as anxiety grows over refunds, penalties, and whether tricky tariff negotiations with the US could spell the tax’s return.

Companies that didn’t pay the tax by a June 30 deadline after Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne’s sudden announcement that the government was abandoning the tax are looking for stronger support from Ottawa that they’ve taken the right course, said David Pierce, vice president of government relations at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
