Canada Border Services Agency Clarifies U.S. Surtax Order for Imported Motor Vehicles

The Canadian Border Services Agency April 15 posted Customs Notice 25-17, clarifying the U.S. Surtax Order (Motor Vehicles 2025). The customs notice clarifies: 1) the scope of the 25 percent surtax on motor vehicles imported from the U.S.; 2) the procedure to apply for surtax relief; 3) exceptions to the surtax; 4) the reporting requirements for declaring imported goods subject to surtax; and 5) the requirements for correcting surtax declarations and requesting re-determinations.
