Canada’s system for imposing carbon taxes and similar programs across the country is applied unevenly and doesn’t ensure large enough cuts in greenhouse gas emission from large industrial operations, a watchdog said Tuesday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s enforcement of the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act—which requires every province and territory to have a program that puts in place a price on emissions—also fails to provide enough public information and unfairly targets indigenous people and small businesses, the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development said in a report.
