Canada Releases Update on 3% Digital Services Tax for Big Tech (1)

Canada wants feedback on a newly revised version of a digital services tax as well as draft legislation to implement a global minimum tax, according to a statement released Friday by the Canadian Department of Finance.

The government published a revised draft of proposed digital service tax legislation, which was originally written in 2021. The measure is a 3% tax—which could be imposed as early as 2024—on Canadian and non-Canadian companies that generate revenue from “certain” digital services they provide to online users in the country.
