The Canadian Revenue Quebec Oct. 15 posted online the requirements for operators of digital accommodation platforms to register and collect lodging tax. Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, third-party operators of digital platforms used to coordinate lodging accommodations must: 1) register for payment of lodging tax; 2) collect a 3.5 percent tax on the price of every overnight stay arranged through their digital platforms; and 3) report and remit the collected tax by the last day of the month following the end of each calendar quarter. The measure is part of the 2020 budget proposal. [Canada, Revenue Quebec, 10/15/19]
