A lawsuit against Canada’s tax authority has the potential to upend federal tax legislation after receiving a green light from the courts, tax pros said.
Canada’s Federal Court dismissed a motion on Wednesday that sought to quash the lawsuit, clearing the path to a full hearing, the suit’s sponsor, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, said in a news release. The lawsuit is challenging the Canada Revenue Agency’s practice of implementing tax proposals before they’ve become law.
