Canada Widens Hunt for Tax Avoidance Among U.S. Property Owners

Canadians who fail to report income from U.S. properties face increased scrutiny from Canada’s tax authority as it prepares to collect information on U.S. real estate.

The Canada Revenue Agency is reviewing submissions from three vendors who pitched their ability to gather bulk U.S. real estate and real property data, including tax assessments and sale information, after the agency solicited submissions in July and August.

The data the agency seeks could be tied, but isn’t necessarily limited to, Canadians with rental properties or those who have made capital gains from selling property in the U.S., agency spokeswoman Pamela Tourigny said ...
