Canada Tax Authority’s Alleged Anti-Muslim Bias Under Review (1)

A review of Canada’s tax treatment of Muslim-led charities will focus on fairness in the selection and application of audits, a federal watchdog said.

Canada Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson François Boileau unveiled the scope of an ongoing investigation Wednesday into allegations the Canada Revenue Agency’s Charities Directorate unfairly targets and penalizes charities from Muslim and other communities when considering terrorist financing risks.

When carrying out audit examinations, the agency should be aware of “the minister’s request of examining the quality of services provided by the CRA to charities and the training it provides to its employees on unconsciousness bias,” Boileau ...
