Canadian Supreme Court Rejects Bank’s Sales Tax Appeal Bid

Canada’s top court dismissed a major bank’s effort to appeal C$22 million ($16.2 million) in sales tax payments the bank claims were made in error.

The Supreme Court of Canada on Thursday rejected the application for leave to appeal filed by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The bank was seeking to reverse a ruling last September by the Federal Court of Appeal, which upheld a 2022 Tax Court of Canada finding that the bank wasn’t entitled to a rebate.

The Supreme Court didn’t provide reasons for its dismissal of the appeal application.
