Taxes designed to make carbon emissions more expensive are unlikely to be the main leaver for dealing with climate change, a senior OECD official said Wednesday.
“Will tax play a key role, I now have some doubts because of how politically charged it is. I would not have said this five years ago but tax will be one of many instruments and probably not be the prevailing one,” said Pascal Saint-Amans, director of the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration.
