The world’s biggest polluting countries aren’t doing enough to tax carbon consumption and encourage cleaner energy, an OECD report found.
Within advanced and emerging economies, 70% of carbon emissions go untaxed, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in a Sept. 20 statement ahead of a forthcoming report.
- “Taxes on polluting sources of energy are not set anywhere near the levels needed to reduce the risks and impacts of climate change and air pollution,” in the 44 countries the report looked at, which account for 80% of energy emissions, the statement said.
