Cell Phones, Cameras to Face Higher Taxes in Argentina

Argentina is set to raise taxes on video cameras and cellphones as part of its 2021 budget approved by the Senate on Tuesday.

The measure, approved in a 139-20 vote, comes as ministers continue negotiations with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund on a plan to fix the country’s finances.

  • The budget would increase the tax on some imported electric and electronic goods, including cameras, cellphones, microwave ovens, and air conditioning units, from 5.5% to 17%.
