Chile Tax Evasion Bill Passes Committee With Opposition Support

The Chilean government won a key vote Tuesday on its bill to lift banking secrecy, allow whistleblowers to remain anonymous and hand the tax authority greater powers, as part of efforts to boost compliance and raise revenue.

After weeks of negotiations, the bill passed the Finance Committee with some support from opposition parties, according to a Tuesday statement from Chile’s Finance Ministry.
