Colombia’s Petro Plans to Present New Tax, Health Bills in July

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said he plans to present a new tax bill as well as A health reform on July 20 when the new congress meets.

  • Health insurers, known as EPSs, will be liquidated if they are bankrupt, Petro said Monday in a televised cabinet meeting, without providing further details
  • It would be “suicide” for Colombia to take on COP50 trillion of debt to pay what health insurers owe; “it’s best if they are liquidated”
