Corporate Tax Transparency Inches Toward Reality in EU Talks

The European Union is advancing sweeping new tax transparency rules this spring that will require companies to disclose publicly how and where they pay taxes.

The proposal has been heralded by advocates as a victory for corporate transparency and the fight to end tax dodging. Companies, meanwhile, warn the plan will create compliance burdens and expose sensitive company information—such as where they make investments—that will put them at a competitive disadvantage.
