Council of EU Calls for Expanding Tax Cooperation Directives

Rules governing European tax information exchange should protect data better and address digital business models, a key EU decision-making body has recommended.

The Council of the European Union, which adopts and coordinates EU laws and policies, on Tuesday released its conclusions on EU Directive 2011/16, which calls for member states to cooperate to combat tax fraud, in part through enhanced sharing of information. The Council’s recommendations are meant to help the European Commission, the bloc’s executive body, to make legislative proposals under the directive.
