Cyprus Tax Agency Clarifies Application of Cross-Border Rules for E-Commerce Under EU VAT Directive

The Cypriot Tax Department May 19 issued a newsletter clarifying the application of the new VAT rules for e-commerce under the EU VAT directive. The new rules apply to: 1) companies that provide distance sales of goods; 2) One-Stop-Shop (OSS) and Mini-One-Stop-Shop (MOSS) transactions; 3) goods shipped from non-EU countries and electronic interface transactions; 4) the abolition of the VAT exemption for imports worth up to 17 euros (US$21); and 5) the introduction of an import regime covering goods worth up to to 150 euros (US$183).
