Czech Finance Minister Won’t Seek Ending Windfall Tax Sooner

Aug. 22, 2024, 9:50 AM UTC

Czech Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura said he won’t propose scrapping the windfall tax before 2025 as originally intended, the CTK newswire reported, citing the minister.

  • Stanjura said the overall revenue from the special levy on the biggest energy companies and banks still hasn’t covered the state’s expenditure on mitigating the impact of Europe’s energy crisis, the CTK reported
  • NOTE: Stanjura said earlier this year that he may propose ending the windfall tax earlier so that it’s not applied next year; the special levy was approved for years 2023-2025
