The UK’s new digital tax return regime presents an opportunity for the tax authority to update its information technology systems, according to an official.
His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ MTD program, for Making Tax Digital, will allow the office to cleanse taxpayer data before migrating it to a new platform, as the way data is kept in the old system is “not good” and a cause of “annoyance” for taxpayers, according to Jonathan Athow, director general of customer strategy and tax design at the office.
