Dutch Unions’ Chevron Tax Complaint May Have Ripple Effect (1)

More companies may start tying tax policies into their corporate governance structures after unions accused Chevron Corporation of tax avoidance.

“My hunch is that this may become a driver toward more explicit formulation of a tax strategy than is the case for many multinationals today,” if complaints continue, said Stef van Weeghel, global tax policy leader at PwC Netherlands.

A federation of Dutch trade unions, the International Transport Workers’ Federation, and Public Services International filed the complaint with an OECD division on Oct. 8.
