Egypt Tax Agency Announces VAT, Corporate Income Tax Deduction, Refund Changes Related to Electronic Invoices

The Egyptian Tax Authority Aug. 23 announced that beginning April 1, 2023 no tax deduction or refund will be permitted for VAT or corporate income tax purposes except if electronic invoices were issued. The agency explains that if electronic invoices weren’t issued: 1) proof of costs or expenses submitted with tax returns will not be considered; and 2) deductions or refunds of VAT will not be possible. The announcement includes information on what registered companies are obligated to issue electronic invoices, by stages, until all are required to do so on Dec. 15. [Egypt, Tax Authority, 08/23/22]
