Estonia, the only country blocking the EU’s value-added tax bill, will present its own amendment to EU countries on Thursday in a bid to get the bill approved.
The bill, known as VAT in the Digital Age, or ViDA, introduces e-invoicing, single VAT registration and would apply VAT to parts of the EU platform economy.
Estonia’s amendment will propose an “opt-in” mechanism on a provision that would allow countries to decide if they want to require short-term rentals and car-sharing platforms like Airbnb and Uber to collect VAT from their suppliers, according to people familiar with the matter.
