Estonian Coalition Party to Propose Windfall Tax on Banks: ERR

Estonia’s Social Democratic Party will propose taxing banks’ windfall profits during government’s ongoing budget talks, Interior Minister Lauri Laanemets, who leads the party, is cited as saying in interview by public broadcaster ERR.

  • The government is aiming to find another €200 million in cuts for the budget, which the three-member coalition aims to send to parliament by the end of Sept.
  • Laanemets calls for progressive tax system as current tax model does not work
