Designers of complex structures that could be used for aggressive tax planning might have to register in the European Union as a condition of advising EU taxpayers and residents, including companies, the European Commission said.
The commission, the EU’s executive, floated the idea Wednesday in a consultation open through Oct. 12 on tackling enablers of tax evasion and aggressive tax planning.
An EU registration obligation could be coupled with a requirement for enablers to carry out due diligence to “check whether the arrangement or scheme they are facilitating leads to tax evasion or aggressive tax planning,” the commission said. ...
