EU Lawmakers Want Crypto Tax to Help Pay For Bloc’s Budget

The European Commission should include EU cryptocurrency and financial transaction taxes when it proposes new sources of revenue for the bloc’s budget later this year, European Parliament lawmakers said Wednesday.

A crypto tax would “foster the emergence of a harmonized tax framework for crypto-assets,” the lawmakers said in an advisory resolution approved by 356 to 199, with 65 abstentions.

They also called on EU countries to finally break their longstanding stalemate and agree to a common levy on financial instrument transactions, and they said the bloc should introduce a “fair border mechanism” under which importers of goods produced by ...
