EU Parliament Tax Committee Chair Says Blacklist ‘Ineffective’ (1)

How the EU goes about adding and removing countries from its tax haven blacklist needs to change, according to the chair of a parliament subcommittee.

The bloc removed Antigua and Barbuda from its list of so-called non-cooperative jurisdictions Tuesday, which Pasquale Tridico, chair of the EU parliament’s tax subcommittee, criticized since countries are removed “based on the commitment that the country’s tax rules will be reformed.”

“However, we believe that the update of the list should follow the implementation of actual tax reforms,” he said in an emailed statement following the publishing of the list.
