European countries won’t expand their digital services taxes as long as they rely on the US for security, a former US Treasury official predicted Friday.
“The reason we’ll never have a DST is because Europe doesn’t know how to defend its citizenry,” said Itai Grinberg, a former Treasury deputy assistant secretary who took part in international tax negotiations at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Grinberg clarified after the Friday panel with Bloomberg Tax that until the war in Ukraine is over, he predicts Europe won’t push for more digital services taxes.
