The EU commissioner for tax Wopke Hoekstra on Tuesday called on EU countries to include aviation and maritime fuels in a bill overhauling its energy tax regime.
EU finance ministers will discuss the bill, known as the Energy Tax Directive, Tuesday.
“There is room to do more, particularly in the domains of aviation and maritime,” Hoekstra said before entering the meeting in Brussels. He recommended that the EU’s finance ministers “seize the opportunity” to make the bill more ambitious.
