EU Weighs Windfall Profits Tax for Energy Companies

The European Commission is weighing the design of a coordinated EU approach for windfall profits taxes on energy companies, an official said Wednesday.

“Our services are intensifying the legal and economic analysis of such measures” as it considers a “coordinated and sensible approach in the EU to windfall profits taxes,” said Věra Jourová, vice president of the commission.

She was speaking at a European Parliament meeting on energy windfall taxes, which target unusually high levels of profit.
