The European Commission (EC) April 19 announced tax decisions in the April monthly infringement package. The package includes tax decisions that: 1) direct Spain to transpose EU Directive 2020/1151, on rules for the harmonization of excise duties on alcohol and alcoholic beverages; 2) refer Belgium to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for failing to correctly transpose EU Directive 2016/1164, on anti-tax avoidance rules for controlled foreign corporation (CFC) tax credits on taxes paid abroad; and 3) direct Italy, Latvia, and Portugal to correctly transpose EU Directive 2018/843, on the fifth anti-money laundering rules.
