European Commission Opens State Aid Investigation Into Polish Grant, Tax Exemption to Chemical Company

The European Commission (EC) Oct. 31 opened an investigation to assess whether two support measures totaling 39 million euros (US$43.5 million) granted to a Polish chemical company are in line with the EU rules on regional state aid. The EC will examine whether: 1) a direct grant of 16 million euros (US$17.8 million) and a tax exemption of 23 million euros (US$25.6 million) granted by Poland in 2012-13 are covered by the 2008 general block exemption regulation; 2) the support measures are in line with the 2007-2013 EU regional guidelines; 3) the overall aid granted by Poland exceeds the maximum ...
