European Union Gazettes EC Decision Further Extending Temporary VAT Exemption for Specific Imports Due to War

The European Union Official Gazette March 6 published European Commission (EC) Decision No. 2024/775, further extending the end date to Dec. 31, 2024, from Dec. 31, 2023, for the temporary waiver of customs duties and VAT on imports of qualifying goods from third countries to covered EU countries, for use by Ukrainians affected by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The VAT exemption applies to goods imported by: 1) state organizations; and 2) charitable organizations approved by the competent authorities of EU countries. The measures apply from Jan. 1.
