Finland Floats Hike in Electricity Tax for Data Centers, Mines

Finland is seeking feedback on a draft proposal to eliminate a tax subsidy for electricity used by data centers and mines, the country’s finance ministry announced Thursday.

  • The tax would increase from a preferential rate of 0.05 euro cent per kilowatt-hour to the standard rate of 2.24 cent per kilowatt-hour, bringing an estimated 58 million euro ($64.2 million) in additional tax revenue next year, according to the ministry.
