Finland to Still Run a Deficit in 2024 Budget, Purra Says

Finland will continue to run a deficit in its 2024 budget, according to Finance Minister Riikka Purra.

Speaking to reporters at the start of Finland’s budget drafting process on Thursday, Purra said the country’s economic situation remains weak.

“We must break the chronic spiral of government debt we are in once and for all,” Purra said in prepared remarks shared in an emailed statement. “This will require all of us to make a determined effort to tighten our belts. Further adjustments will be needed after this parliamentary term, as well,” she said.
