France Tax Agency Seeks Comments on Simplification of VAT for Specific Food Items

The French General Directorate of Public Finance June 29 opened a consultation on the simplification of the VAT regime for specific food items. The draft rules include measures that would: 1) provide a 5.5 percent VAT rate on foodstuffs for human consumption, and on products used in their manufacture; 2) reduce the VAT rate to a 5.5 percent on specific products throughout the food production chain; 3) provide a 10 percent VAT on foodstuffs for animals and products used in their manufacture, as well as specific products used for agricultural production; 4) provide a conditional reimbursement of the overpayment by ...
