France’s Deficit-Cutting Plan Very Uncertain, Auditor Says

France’s strategy to reduce its budget deficit this year remains “very uncertain,” even after the government set less ambitious targets than initially planned, the country’s audit court said.

The French Parliament adopted a delayed budget earlier this month that aims to reduce the gap to 5% of economic output this year from 5.4% expected in 2025.

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu had at first set a goal of 4.7%, but was forced to make concessions to opposition lawmakers to dissuade them from toppling him in no-confidence votes.
