Georgia Increases Certain Gwinnett County Homestead Property Tax Exemption, Subject to Voter Approval

The Georgia Governor signed a law concerning a homestead property tax exemption. The law includes: 1) increasing the exemption from Gwinnett County school district ad valorem taxes to $10,000 of assessed value for the homestead of each resident of the Gwinnett County school district actually occupied by the owner as a primary residence and homestead; 2) requiring voter approval of the exemption in the general primary in 2026; and 3) providing that the exemption is applicable to tax years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2027.
