Ghana’s Supreme Court has dismissed minority lawmakers’ application to suspend a newly introduced tax on electronic transfers until the substantive case on the legality of that tax is decided, says Judge Nene Amegatcher.
- Minority lawmakers applied for an injunction order on the so-called “e-levy” last month
- The court is deciding in a substantive case if the bill that made the e-levy law should be nullified after opposition MPs said there was no quorum in parliament at the time of its passage
- The start date for the hearings will be announced
- The e-levy came into effect on May 1
