Amazon, Google, Netflix, and Spotify will be responsible for collecting Indonesia’s new digital value-added tax starting Aug. 1, the tax authority said Tuesday.
The tax authority’s announcement answers a key question about the new Indonesian tax. The government said in May that certain businesses would be responsible for collecting the tax, but hadn’t yet specified which ones, raising concerns that businesses won’t have their systems ready in time.
The tax is intended in part to help close revenue gaps created by the coronavirus.
