Greece Tax Agency Issues Circular Clarifying Consumption Tax, Reduced VAT Rate for Specific Products

The Greek Independent Authority for Public Revenue Jan. 4 issued Circular No. E.2002, clarifying the consumption tax and reduced VAT rate for specific products. The circular clarifies: 1) the imposition of the consumption tax on smoke-free electrically heated tobacco products; 2) the application and extension of the 13 percent, 6 percent, and zero percent reduced VAT rates on specific products, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, gyms and school dance services, and transportation services for persons and luggage; and 3) a 13 percent VAT on non-alcoholic beverages, effective retroactively from Dec. 11, 2023, subject to specific conditions.
