The UK tax authority Tuesday encouraged taxpayers to take part in the testing phase of its digital tax returns regime before it becomes mandatory next year.
The testing program will allow eligible self-employed people and landlords to familiarize themselves with the process and access customer care support before the regime becomes compulsory for some taxpayers from next April, Craig Ogilvie, His Majesty Revenue and Customs’ director of Making Tax Digital, said in a statement.
The new rules aim to reduce the UK tax gap—the difference in expected tax revenues and actual taxes collected.
