Hungary wants to begin clearing a backlog of tax bills from its books this year as head of the EU’s rotating presidency, and a proposal to digitalize value-added tax may be one of the few where a finish line is in sight.
Its aim is to have EU finance ministers finalize the bill when they meet Oct. 8, according to a spokesperson for the Hungarian presidency.
The bill, known as VAT in the Digital Age, or ViDA, is one example of a wider digital push by finance ministries across the bloc, with business groups urging progress.
